Life on the Farm

There's been little time for quilting as we have tried to learn to farm. Mark and I both have full time jobs. It leaves precious little time for seeding, planting, weeding and watering but we are committed to growing our own organic food. We are learning as we go...we understand how hard farmer's work. We appreciate all the work they do to bring non Gmo fruits and vegetables to market. It can be back breaking work...and yet it is becoming our passion.

We have only been at this for two years. The farm land we are using was previously used to grow GMO corn, so we have to wait at least 2 more years to be able to say we have organic crops.  We are still in the learning phase anyway. We are currently framing about 2/3 of an acre, growing onions,  beets, tomatoes, summer and winter squash, eggplant, potatoes, basil, carrots, rutabaga, garlic and pumpkins. I'm sure I left something out. SO here are some of  the pictures of our beloved garden. The kale is the first crop ready to be harvested!! YUM! The last photo is a picture of my grandson, Liam playing in one of our Beekeeping suits, pretending he's an Astronaut.  Life is good when you are 4!
Til next time. Bee happy. Love large. Mo

Lil' Twister table toppers

Emily and Kyle are home from Maui! They had a dream elopement and honeymoon in Hawaii. Emily and Kyle's Maui photos. I absolutely loved her dress. The dress was made by Saja. They have a whole line of beautiful, elegant, simple wedding dresses.

Now we start planning for a party/reception to be held at our Lake house July 6th. So I have been busy piecing red and blue table toppers.

I ordered the Lil twister tool from one of my favorite online quilt shops...The Missouri Star Quilt Company.  I am a big fan of the Quilters Daily deals, customer service, a huge fabric selection and amazing free tutorials. Plus they have super fast and economical shipping. Heres a link to their shop Missouri Star Quilt Company.  I watched one of the fab tutorials on how to use this clever device and started in. I used different values of blue fabric for my first attempt...wasn't happy with the outcome. Not enough contrast, too many of my pinwheels blend.

Back to the drawing board. This time I tried rows of red, white and blue.
Here's the charms before I added the border and used the Lil' Twister to cut my pinwheels...

This is another easy, fun, fast quilt to make. I want to try it with Layer cake squares next.

A new beginning

Life is finally returning to normal. I've spent the past 3 years in school and most recently the past year learning the ropes as a new Nurse Practitioner. It's been hard, rewarding, time consuming ansd enlightening.  But I am finally coming out of the fog and am able to find time to quilt again!

Quilting...oh how I have missed you. I love the immediate gratification of finishing a block, the feel of the fabrics, the play of the colors. So many  choices in design and fabric. I sometimes have trouble focusing on a single project because I am anxious to begin the next one.
Now I finally have mo' time for quilting. I have lots of projects to complete. Let's get started...
Here's my lastest project. A wedding quilt for my lovely daughter, Emily and her fabulous new husband, Kyle. The pattern is Surf Song by Eileen Wright. Easy to follow instructions and fun to make.
The quilt was the largest I ever completed, 98 X 96. Emily and Kyle eloped to Maui and are getting married 4/17/13. I wanted a quilt that looked like a wave to remind them of their trip to Hawaii.  I still have to work on the quilt label for the back. Any ideas??
